Learn The Future Perfect Continuous Through A Fun Grammar Story

Do you want to talk about actions that will be ongoing until a certain point in the future?
That’s when we use the Future Perfect Continuous!

Grammar Point: Future Perfect Continuous
Form: [Subject + will have been + verb-ing]
✔️Use:
To show that an action will be in progress for a certain amount of time before a specific future moment.
Often used with time expressions like for, by, since, all day, by next week/month/year, etc.
Examples:
By next Friday, I will have been working at this company for five years.
She will have been studying English for three hours by the time her class starts.
They will have been traveling for 12 hours when they finally reach Paris.
🎯Tip:
Focus on duration.
This tense is all about how long something will have been happening by a future moment.

Maya’s Marathon Preparation
Maya is training for a big marathon. She wants to be ready for the race in two weeks.
By the time the marathon starts, Maya will have been running every morning for three months.
Her friends are impressed because she will have been following such a strict training schedule for so long.
She is tired sometimes, but she knows it will all be worth it.
By next weekend, she will have been preparing for the marathon for 90 days straight!
Maya’s story shows how we use the Future Perfect Continuous to talk about actions ongoing up to a point in the future.

Fill in the blanks using the Future Perfect Continuous form of the verbs in parentheses.
By 8 p.m., I ________ (study) English for four hours.
Next summer, they ________ (live) in Tokyo for two years.
By the time you arrive, we ________ (wait) for you for half an hour.
She ________ (work) on her project all morning by lunchtime.
By the end of the year, he ________ (train) for the competition for six months.

Write sentences about your own plans using the Future Perfect Continuous.

The Future Perfect Continuous is used to talk about actions that will continue for a period of time before a future moment.
Form: Subject + will have been + verb-ing
Example:
By next June, I will have been studying English for three years.
