Do you want to talk about actions that will be ongoing until a certain point in the future?
That’s when we use the Future Perfect Continuous!
In this blog, you’ll learn the grammar point, see it in action in a story, and practise with exercises to feel confident using it in your own sentences.

Grammar Point: Future Perfect Continuous
Form: [Subject + will have been + verb-ing]
✔️Use:
To show that an action will be in progress for a certain amount of time before a specific future moment.
Often used with time expressions like for, by, since, all day, by next week/month/year, etc.
Examples:
By next Friday, I will have been working at this company for five years.
She will have been studying English for three hours by the time her class starts.
They will have been traveling for 12 hours when they finally reach Paris.
🎯Tip: Focus on duration. This tense is all about how long something will have been happening by a future moment.
📚Story: Maya’s Marathon Preparation
Maya is training for a big marathon. She wants to be ready for the race in two weeks.
By the time the marathon starts, Maya will have been running every morning for three months.
Her friends are impressed because she will have been following such a strict training schedule for so long.
She is tired sometimes, but she knows it will all be worth it. By next weekend, she will have been preparing for the marathon for 90 days straight!
Maya’s story shows how we use the Future Perfect Continuous to talk about actions ongoing up to a point in the future.
