The Surprise Café Visit

A Short Story for Learning the Past Simple

Emma was tired after work, so she decided to visit a new café near her office.

The café looked warm and cosy. Soft music played in the background, and the smell of fresh coffee filled the air.

A friendly barista smiled and said, “Good evening! What would you like?”

Emma ordered a caramel latte and a slice of chocolate cake. She sat by the window and opened her book.

While she read, she noticed a small brown envelope on the table beside her chair. She picked it up carefully.

On the front, someone wrote: “For the next customer.”

Emma looked around, but nobody noticed the envelope. Slowly, she opened it. Inside, she found a handwritten note and a movie ticket.

The note said:

“Life is full of surprises. Enjoy tonight’s movie!”

Emma laughed softly. She asked the barista about the envelope, but he shook his head.

“I don’t know who left it,” he said. “But this café sometimes has little mysteries.”

Emma finished her coffee, thanked the barista, and decided to use the ticket.

That evening, she watched a funny movie and had a wonderful time.

Before she left the cinema, she smiled and wrote a new note for someone else:“Your turn to smile today.”
