🌤 Maya’s Lucky Monday
Maya woke up late on Monday morning.
“Oh no!” she said. “I forgot to set my alarm!”
She jumped out of bed, brushed her teeth quickly, and got dressed in a rush.
She didn’t have time for breakfast.
On the way to the bus stop, it started to rain.
Maya had no umbrella.
“This day is not going well,” she thought.
But when she arrived at the bus stop, something unexpected happened.
The bus driver smiled and said,“Good morning! Today is a free ride day.
No need to pay!”
Maya was surprised. “Really? That’s great!” she said, feeling a little better.
She got to work only five minutes late.
Her manager didn’t look upset.
Instead, he said,“Maya, you look like you need a hot coffee. Come, it’s on me.”
Maya smiled. The warm drink made her feel relaxed.
Then, she checked her email.
There was a message from a happy client.“You helped me so much last week,” it said. “Thank you!”
Maya’s bad day slowly turned into a good one.
She remembered something her grandmother always said: “Sometimes, a bad morning can turn into a beautiful day.”

🎧 Listening Guide: Tips for Better English Listening
Don’t worry if you don’t understand every word! Try these simple strategies as you listen.
1. 👂 Listen for the main idea
First, listen to understand the general story.
Ask yourself:
What happened to Maya?
Did her day get better or worse?
2. 🔑 Listen for key words
You don't need to understand every word. Listen for important words such as:
Monday
late
rain
bus
coffee
email
lucky
3. 🔁 Listen more than once
Try 3 listening rounds:
Round 1: Listen for the main idea.
Round 2: Listen for details.
Round 3: Listen and check your answers.
4. 📝 Write down words you recognise
When you hear a useful word or phrase, pause and write it down.
For example: in a rush, on me, feel relaxed.
5. 🤔 Use context to guess
If you don't know a word, don't stop listening. Think about the situation and guess the meaning from the context.
6. 👄 Notice how words sound together
Native speakers often connect words when they speak naturally.
For example:
“What did you do?”may sound more like “Whaddid you do?”
Don't worry if the spoken English sounds different from the written English!
7. 🗣️ Repeat useful phrases
After listening, choose one or two phrases and say them aloud.
For example:
“I was in a rush this morning.”
“Coffee's on me.”
8. 🌱 Be patient with yourself
Good listening takes practice. You don't have to understand 100% to be successful. Focus on understanding a little more each time.
💬 Don't look at the transcript on your first listen.
